Marissa Meyer’s futuristic novel, Cinder, is set in an advanced society. It contains large divides between different groups of people including; cyborgs, humans, and Lunars. Cyborgs are often looked down upon as inhuman machines that are held to high expectations. Though the majority of cyborgs are partially human.

The protagonist, Cinder, is a cyborg who struggles with these divides between people. Because of this, Cinder feels the need to hide her identity as a Cyborg. She constantly works to appease others in order to be accepted.

Lunar Chronicles as Futuristic World:

In Cinder, the first in the Lunar Chronicles, Marissa Meyer has gone beyond a simple retelling and created a fantastical new universe by transporting the classic Cinderella story to New Beijing, a futuristic world where former Earth residents have colonized the moon. Living on Lunar has caused these citizens to develop special powers that allow them to manipulate the thoughts and minds of others.

Technological control, the Lunar Gift:

Luna is a futuristic world where former Earth residents have colonized the moon. In the novel, there was a crowd protesting the arrival of Lunar Queen Levana. When she appears on a balcony above the protestors, she immediately brainwashes the crowd. This was due to the power of the Lunar gift.

Futuristic Society: Cinder as a Futuristic Novel

The futuristic society portrayed in the novel can be very demanding. In such a society, people need to learn to stop trying to please others, live for themselves, and do what they believe is right and they will benefit from their actions. This thing is shown throughout the story in a series of critical scenes and is also portrayed using the author’s craft.

A dystopian novel: Cinder as a Futuristic Novel

Dystopia is a literary device used to present a vision of the future that challenges readers to reflect on the current social and political environments in which they live.

An imagined world or society in which people lead wretched, dehumanized, fearful lives. There’s almost a flavor of science fiction.  In Cinder, both Lunars and cyborgs are feared and despised.

We can conclude that Cinder is a futuristic novel by the use of futuristic items in this novel such as Lunar Chronicles, Technological control, the Lunar Gift, Futuristic society, and dystopian novel.
